I started listening to an interesting audiobook, Born a Crime by Trevor Noah.

Apart from the humour (pro tip: listen to the audiobook for the best experience), I am completely blown away by the articulation of his childhood experiences, his roots, his history, and his identity.

I found myself saying โ€˜wowโ€™ several times.

He was born during the apartheid in South Africa when it was literally a crime for white folks and black folks to be married and intimate.

As a coloured child, his very existence screamed crime, illegal etc.

How do you grow up to be successful after that kind of childhood?

How do you wear your identity as a badge of honour?

How do you grow up and tell your story with such pride and authenticity, and make it a bestseller?

If thereโ€™s anything I have learnt from listening to this book, all my experiences in life so far, whether good or bad, make up who I am today.

And in embracing this lies my superpower - the strength to navigate the world with authenticity and an unwavering sense of who I am.

You cannot deny who you are at your core, no matter how hard you try.

I highly recommend this book! I promise you will have a very good laugh, but you will also see the strength in embracing your identity!
