Childlike Wonder

You can’t catch a child pretending to be who they are not. Even if they did, it’s only a matter of seconds before they return to the default setting (the authentic setting).

I observe little children and I see their innocence, audacity, boldness and authenticity.

You can’t catch a child pretending to be who they are not. Even if they did, it’s only a matter of seconds before they return to the default setting (the authentic setting).

So how then does such a pure soul grow up and start to lose its authenticity, its wonder and its colour?

𝐈𝐭 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐛𝐨𝐢𝐥𝐬 𝐝𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬:

📍𝐏𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞: the adults in our lives that shut us down, said we were too forward or passed a negative comment about our identity.

📍𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬: disappointments, pain, and failures.

📍𝐒𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐭𝐲/𝐂𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞: the messaging from popular culture on who a ‘cool’ person is. Or the definitions of success.

If you’re a parent, one of the best gifts you can give your child is to help them guard their wonder. Trust me, it will make a lot of difference in their adult lives.

If you’re an adult and your childlike wonder has been corrupted by any of the three things I mentioned above, you need to ask God for healing and restoration, and also be intentional about finding your way back to your authentic design.

Sometimes you just need to take yourself less seriously and laugh at your mistakes.

Other times, it’s dreaming unhindered and believing bigger like your Father owns the universe. Because indeed He does!
